Happy V-Day! There's a war on ...

February isn’t just for lovers, it’s also black history month and a time to reflect on the monumental disaster that is the ongoing War on Drugs. Despite momentum around legalization in the US, The New York Times recently reported that drug arrests for possession are actually on the rise, and, it should come as no surprise, those arrests disproportionately target black and Latinx communities. White and black Americans consume marijuana at roughly the same levels, but black Americans are nearly four times as likely to be arrested for possession.

We’re not knocking the heart-shaped candy boxes or the giant stuffed animals. We won’t even diss those dusty little “be mine”  sweethearts — even though they rank second behind candy corn as our least favorite holiday-specific treats. This Valentine’s you do you, but remember there’s a war on.

If you’re getting in on the love fest tomorrow, we encourage you to give the gift of grass from black-owned businesses. This Valentine’s Day (and every other god damn day of the year), let’s make love not war.

Looking for black or minority-owned cannabis businesses in your area? Cannaclusive and Almost Consulting have compiled a pretty extensive list with their collab, InclusiveBase.
